Workstation

Workstation is a desk that has an integrated laptop dock. It allows the user to keep a mobile workspace with a laptop, but able to switch to a desktop style workstation, giving the user more space and a more comfortable experience. Workstation keeps that comfortable experience throughout its life being designed to be flat-packing and manufacture from two sheets of laminated lumber.

The docking system is designed to be a seamless interaction, the user just puts their device into one of the drawers of the desk and closes it. The plugs for monitor, USB, and power, all line up with the plugs on the laptop and connect when the drawer is closed. The user then is able to continue working using a full size monitor and keyboard with plenty of space for a mouse. When the user needs to work remotely, they just open the drawer the device is in, take it out, and they are on their way.

Currently the prototype is setup for one specific model of laptop but can be customized to fit each device as needed. As more laptop manufacturers move towards USB type-C as a standard, more devices will be able to plug into one setup.
